A lovely quiet, long, sandy beach.
The Independence is a white sandy beach, about a 1000m long, narrow and a little bit rockier then other Sihanoukville beaches. It is a really quiet beach as there are not many sellers. You can get some snacks and refreshments in a small collection of new beach restaurants located conveniently in the middle of the beach. There is a private beach at the Independence Hotel complex. It is still one of the quietest beaches around here. Relaxing and watching the quiet movements of nature are the best things that you can do at the this beach. You can literally lie down while sunbathing on the spotless clean seaside, while the cool sea breeze brushes your face. If you get too tired of the heat then you can always rest under the shade of a grass umbrella that are so popular here. The Independence Beach is also ideal for enjoying a nice picnic with friends and family.
As its name 'Independence' suggest you can literally feel liberated in the freshness of the sea, sand and nature. However this beach is also known as a '7-Chann beach'. It has been given this name after a popular Independence hotel that used to be here, but now has been replaced by a lovely resort. Please don't forget that if you are heading to this beach from the centre of the town check on the signs for a '7-Chann beach' rather then Independence beach.
As the beach is quite narrow the best is to visit when the tide is low. The beach gets wider towards the North West where is a small fresh water lake (which is the source of the town's fresh water and is rumoured to contain crocodiles). At the other end is the beach's only hotel, Sea Breeze. Grass umbrellas and drink vendors now line the private beach of this hotel. The road up to the old Independence Hotel is often frequented by a small troop of Rhesus monkeys. This lovely beach is one of gems of all the beaches in Sihanoukville and is definitely worth a visit.
Right next to the Independence Beach is the Sokha Beach on its western side.
